EP to Discuss Isolations on Turkish Cyprus Today

The European Parliament (EP) is scheduled to discuss the status of Varosha (Maras) and the economic sanctions imposed on Turkish Cyprus at today's session in Strasbourg.

Olli Rehn, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, will brief the MEPs regarding the latest developments on the issue.

Several other MEPs are also expected to voice their views on the restrictions on Turkish Cypriots and the status of Maras.

Despite growing pressure from the European Union, which Turkey wants to join, Ankara refuses to open its ports to traffic from EU member Greek Cyprus until the economic sanctions on Turkish Cyprus, which is only recognized by Turkey, are lifted.
