Debates are still continuing after the cancellation of the Cyprus meeting scheduled to take place today in Helsinki, the capital city of EU term-president Finland.
Greek Cyprus’s London ambassador and former Foreign Minister Yorgo Yakovu said that the meeting was cancelled because of Turkey’s attitude.
Answering questions from the BBC’s Turkish Service, Yakovu claimed that the Helsinki summit was cancelled since Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul gave a negative response to Finland’s invitation.
“This issue is between the Cypriot Greek side and Turkey,” said the Greek Cypriot diplomat, adding that contrary to Ankara’s demands, Greece did not need to participate in these talks.
