Working in Cyprus for Cypriots Abroad

Post Working in Cyprus for Cypriots Abroad
My question here involves the position of a Greek Cypriot living abroad (a Cyprus Citizen) when trying to find employment in Cyprus having not done military service.

Will anyone employ you knowing that you have not done the army and that you could possibly be called?

Does anyone know of Cypriots living abroad that go to Cyprus to work temporarily? permanently? Without having done military service?

Regards,
NZCypriot

Im sure anyone employing a male who has not completed the army service would be be reluctant...

Go for a low key in-the-hand type of employment, skip past a few Cyprus army officials and the dream goes on Laughing Laughing

Unfortunately the young boys of Cyprus (18 year olds) are living and waiting for their callup to complete a 26 month sentence, Cypriots abroad only have to complete 6 months service (under 25 years) and 3 months (over 25)....

Or wait till you are 50 then go live and work in Cyprus, then you dont have to do a damn thing with the army Very Happy

Is there compulsory army service for men in the North? I suppose the Turks have all the army they need if required, they could just ship them in like in '74 Mad

There is 18 months millitary service for the TC but ones that come from abroad can opt to pay certain amounts of money and do none to 9 months.

I had to pay a decent amount of cash not to do service.

I heard that if you do not do army or pay by 27 years old then you loose your citizenship in Turkey....Is this true?

I paid about 8 thousand US$. This is true unless you register with the local turkish consulate which in my case was Houston. Occasionally they issue an amnesty and you pay a fine and get your citizenship back. So it's not as catastrophic as it sounds. The few Turkish friends I grew up here with did the same thing. We were all against spending 2 years in the military. There is, however, and understanding. If any sort of all out war breaks out(which I hope never happens), you would see a gigantic influx of expat turks returning to the old country. No matter how old they are.
