Shocking reports that missing were used as guinea pigs
Shocking reports that missing were used as guinea pigs by Turkey
Quote:AN AMERICAN defence and strategic policy report saying some of the 1974 missing Greek Cypriots ended up as guinea pigs in Turkish biochemical experiments was described as “shocking” yesterday by Foreign Minister George Lillikas.
Commenting on the report in the subscriber bulletin “Defence and Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy”, which hit the headlines at the weekend, Lillikas said the government is expecting a full report on the claims.
According to the American article, which examines “the growing confrontation” between Turkey and the Kurds, between 1984 and 1988 many missing Greek Cypriots and Greek soldiers captured during the invasion ended up in secret Turkish biochemical laboratories.
Here there were used as guinea pigs, the article said. However it added that the allegations were unconfirmed.
It said that Theophilos Geogiades, the Greek Cypriot civil servant and chairman of the Cyprus Committee for Solidarity with Kurdistan, was murdered by the Turkish secret service MIT in March 1994 because of what he knew about the experiments.
Georgiades was gunned down outside his house only a week after he had attended an international conference held in Brussels where he had revealed data on Turkey’s methods for the suppression of the Kurdish problem, according to the report.
It also suggested that he knew about the experiments on the captured Greek and Greek Cypriots.
“His accusations brought a substantial reaction in Turkey,” said the report. “And after he returned to Cyprus he was killed in the yard of his house by gunshots fired by unknown people. It was rumoured he had information about missing Greek Cypriots and he was in contact with PKK Kurds who had managed to escape from a secret biochemical laboratory of the Turkish army outside of Ankara and which operated under the supervision of the Gulhane Military Medical Academy,” said the article.

Quote:Greece checking reports that missing used as human guinea pigs
By Jean Christou
ATHENS is also evaluating reports that Greek and Greek Cypriot missing from 1974 ended up as guinea pigs in Turkish biochemical experiments, Greece’s Government Spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos said yesterday.
"The government is not in a position to confirm the validity of the contents of the specific report. However, Athens is evaluating all relevant information in co-operation with the government of the Republic of Cyprus," Roussopoulos said.
Earlier this week, newspapers quoted the American 'Defence and Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy report saying that some of the 1974 missing ended up as guinea pigs in secret Turkish biochemical experiments between 1984 and 1988.
The experiments had been witnessed by Kurds who had themselves managed to escape.
Yesterday Phileleftheros, which was first to publish the contents of the article, spoke Gregory Copley, president of the Washington-based International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA), which produces the defence bulletin exclusively for governments.
Copley said the association had a lot of information relating to Greek Cypriots captured in 1974 and used as guinea pigs. He said he was still gathering more information.
“It’s a very hot question for the Turkish military authorities,” he said, adding that day by day more information was emerging about Turkish biological and chemical weapons’ programmes, something they were watching closely.

I only know as much as i have read in the above posts which at present are not confirmed one way or another but aparently they were biochemical experiments which i assume would result in the untimely death of the human being exposed to it.

Quote:ISSA head admits ‘no concrete evidence’ that missing used in chemical weapons tests
By Simon Bahceli
THE Head of the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA), the body that reported allegations that Turkey had used Greek Cypriot prisoners captured in the 1974 invasion of Cyprus as guinea pigs for chemical weapons experiments, conceded yesterday he had “no concrete evidence” that the allegations were true.
“I never used the word concrete,” ISSA head Gregory Copley told the Cyprus Mail yesterday. He refused, however, to withdraw claims that there existed numerous allegations, “not only from Kurdish sources”, that Turkey had used Greek Cypriots in its programme to develop chemical weapons. None of the allegations, he conceded however, had been confirmed.

Well it seems that it has all been swept under the carpet as all parties concerned have made no staements whatsoever and as we know cypriot politicians, if they even have half a leg to stand on they would have made a mountain over this if there was even the tiniest bit of proof to back the allegation up.
