The Turkish government is to buy 17 S-70B Seahawk helicopters from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, according to a statement issued from the Connecticut-based U.S. company.

The company announced that a contract was signed by the Undersecretary for Defense Industries (SSM) of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense for 17 new S-70B Seahawk helicopters on Friday.

"This contract is a very good one for all parties involved," said Murad Bayar, Undersecretary of the SSM. "Under the terms of this agreement, Sikorsky has committed to a 50 percent offset obligation, which will bring both jobs and high technology to the Turkish industry," Bayar added.

Sikorsky President Jeffrey Pino said that this relationship would build upon the industrial cooperation foundations established under the prior Sikorsky-Turkey Black Hawk programs.

The first deliveries of the Seahawks are set to begin in 2009, according to the statement.

The purchase of 17 more helicopters will add to the seven S-70B Seahawk helicopters currently in the inventory of the Turkish Navy.

Turkey has bought over 100 Black Hawk helicopters from the U.S. company in the past.

The US and Turkey are obviously up to thier dirty games again . .Where is the UK. Surely they must be sticking thier dirty face into this some how. Turkey's feeling a bit threatened as they are finding it difficult to get EU accession so naturally they stock up on their military force and power .. if we know anything from the past its that they are not afraid to use it either!

Just as Greece is also stocking up on weapons as reported in the press with orders for new fighter planes and has s300 bombs on Crete and various Greek islands despite signing treaties that she never would and is not allowed according to the international law and agreements signed by her, in other words no better than the rest.

Lets not be selective of our critisism and just demonise Turkey when Greece is just as bad.
