Post 25 March, Greek War of Independence
Dear Members

Today is Greek Independence Day, It is celebrated by Greeks annually on the 25th of March to mark independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire. The Treaty of Constantinople was granted in July 1832 when Greece (Hellas) was recognized as a free country.

The Greek revolution/independence movement spread to Cyprus as well, what implications did this have on the next century in the build up to bicommunal and political/military disaster in Cyprus.

p.s Rational discussion is appreciated on this subject

Personally i feel that it was a good thing the Greeks got their independence its just that it negatively affected cyprus by turning it ifrom peaceful co-existing people to extremists with no tolerance to the 'other' which resulted in the 'other' also having to become nationalistic which in turn leads us to where we are today.
