It is very disappointing to read such ignorant statements of hate. I am reminded of Fundamentalist Islamists who have a mental age of 12 and an IQ that is even lower. It is becoming clearer that this Forum has no intention of reasoned debate over a problem that we say we care about. What I see here are schoolyard slogans repeated over and over again, where I am right and so you must be wrong.

Being computer illiterate I must assume that the setting up of a Forum like this takes time , effort and probably some money.

You seem to have wasted it all.

Dear SP . . To evolve to a viable and workable solution we MUST have a good understanding of the past . .There are many issues that need to be addressed . .I reiterate that WE HAVE THE INTENTION OF DEBATING OVER A PROBLEM THAT WE CARE ABOUT.

The Cyprus Problem has affected both sides hugely. Greek Cypriots suffered and Turkish Cypriots suffered. Some families are more affected than others. The root of the problem, in my opinion, is a Tradittiobnal dislike/hatred/enmity between Greek and Turk. As brother points out we tend to be "Influenced " by our motherlands. We choose to be either Greek or Turk Cypriot rather than Cypriot. Even in New Zealand, the other side of the world you celebrate your "Greekness". Please do not understand me, it is a good thing to remind yourself of your roots and to maintain your ethnicity and culture.

The Problem

From my point of view it would appear that Greek Cypriots want to rule and have control over the whole of the island. I am of the opinion that they feel that this is their right.

Turkish Cypriots want to have control and rule a part of the island, which they also believe is their right.

This is a case where two rights make for many wrongs. Forget about the property lost what about the lives lost. On both sides.

For you it seems the killing started in 1974. For us it started in 1957.

There is a long history of abuse and murder of Turkish Cypriots for us to believe in our Rights. There is an equally horrific history of murder and abuse of Greek Cypriots to make you believe in your Rights.

The Solution

To put the past behind and concentrate on the futures of our children and grand children. How should we best accomodate future generations and bring them up NOT TO HATE the " Other Side".

This is going to be a looooong process. It will not be accomplished in my life time.

I do not have a monopoly on the truth. But as far as I am concerned Both sides are as guilty as hell and so far BOTH sides DO NOT ADMIT to their past mis behaviours.

You all seem to be intelligent young people. Do not make the same mistakes as your fathers and grandfathers before you ( Figuratively speaking Maria ) and HATE BLINDLY. This is the message that must go out to both sides.

SP,

A rational post as such is appreciated

It is not just our Greekness we are expressing here, it is our Cypriotism! I understand the points you make. I understand that Turkish Cypriots did suffer from 1957 and I certainly understand that many more Greek Cypriots also suffered from that time and since and are still suffering. All Cypriots suffered and this is something very bad that people lived through and continue to live through.

I am concerned at your comments toward me as young and 'influenced' and living abroad. I am 100% Cypriot. I understand, live and breathe the culture and the Cypriot way everyday! My family and friends have lived for many many generations in Cyprus. They have died and survived throughout all the Events from 1957 (and long before then) that you are referring to.

We have not been brainwashed by our "parents and grandfathers", I understand the context of the whole Cyprob. I reiterate that Turkish Cypriots are not the problem: Turkey is.

You talk about bringing up future generations NOT TO HATE, I understand what you are saying but these many issues of Turkeys actions have had horrific consequences and are majorly involved in the problem. Have you heard of Den Xechno? You are somewhat suggesting to forget about the many horrific consequences and the continuel problems of illegal occupation and no solution. . .

I agree that we must look forward with a positive and pragmatic attitude but the factors of that past (for both sides) need to be put in perspective in working toward a new and viable solution.

You are right! Changing the Den Xechno (what you refer to as HATE) attitude will take generations. I hence to do see this as an option as this is too long and Turkey will have illegally colonised by then and a viable solution will not be possible.

The pro Turks keep referring to 'Both Sides' - for the Cypriots there is only one side - CYPRUS . . This includes Greek and Turkish Cypriots - IT DOES NOT INCLUDE TURKEY. Also it doesnt include Greece but YET Turkey maintains ILLEGAL control of 37.5% of the island FOR OVER 32 YEARS. . Do you not see this as a major problem???

...This goes back to what you/brother/xenos ignorantly refer to as "SCHOOL YARD SLOGANS" but they are actually well justified points. . I Reiterate . . ALL TURKISH TROOPS AND ILLEGAL TURKISH AND OTHER SETTLORS OUT OF CYPRUS . . Cyprus is FOR THE Greek Cypriots and the Genuine Turkish Cypriots

turkish Cypriots rights ? what about the Greek Cypriots rights we have a right to our property back dont tell us to forget our property.

And also the killing for us did not start in 1974 it started in 1571 when you turks invaded Cyprus killing 20,00 in nicosia under the ottoman empire greek Cypriots where executed you been killing greeks for the past 400 years then you did it again a other genocide in 1974.
