we are not demonising Turks... however, their actions over the last 32 years do not do them any justice in our perceptions of Turks today. can you blame the Cypriot people?

Post Anti Turkish For a Reason
Hi All

I am anti Turkish military and government - most certianly!!

The facts tell the story of an ILLEGAL and VIOLATING invasion and continued unjustifiable occupation by Turkey of Northern Cyprus.

I blame Turkey for the terror and termoil that has provided a living hell for the surviving Greek Cypriots..

I do not have so much resent toward REAL Turkish Cypriot People as they were rightfully in Cyprus, living happily with Greek Cypriots before the Invasion

Regards
Vourka

As Xenos says these photos are not rare but presumably quite accurate. As a military operation the landing of Turkish Forces in Cyprus was quite an undertaking and clearly had to be planned in detail. It is a real shame that this had to happen at all but the situation at the time allowed Turkey all the provocation she needed. As for the images, well they speak for themselves, these are images of soldiers going to war, as seen all over the world.

Hello Vourka

I appreciate your comment but I must disabuse you of it's veracity. Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot were not living in peace with each other before the events of 1974. Ask your parents or do some research before making such an incorrect statement.

Post Greeks and Turks Living Togethor before 1974
Dear SP

Thanks for your reply. How can you make such an assertive point. I am sure that this is a very subjective issue. My parents and other elders have explained to me that this was the case. I have also heard reports from Turkish people that they were happy living with the Greeks as neighbours before the invasion.

I you know otherwise then please enlighten us

Hello Vourka

Yes I am sure of many things. One is that indeed some Turk Cypriots and Greek Cypriots were living in harmony pre 1974.

Another is that the United Nations came to the Island in 1964, in response tothe intercommunal fighting on the island.

And one more is the following list of SOME of the Turkish Cypriots murdered by EOKA gunmen in 1963.

Post Corrupt US and British Involvement in the 1974 Invasion
The Turkish Military had illegitimate support and unethical involvement from the US and Britain whilst illegally invading Cyprus in 1974

This support was military support and, like the photos above, it was VERY STRATEGIC AND VERY WELL PLANNED AND EXECUTED. .

The invading Turkish forces supported (secretly) by the US and Britain left Cyprus with NO CHANCE TO DEFEND ITSELF.. . Peace Keeping or Terrorism ? ?

I am sure there is alot of dirt around this issue so comment are welcome

Hello rousias

It's a tough old world.

Turkey , on this occassion probably had the implicit support of the Americans , but certainly not of the British. Bulent Ecevit while in London discussing the Cyprus situation with Foreign Minister Callaghan, ( Both as respective Guarantor Nations) was warned off by said Foreign Minister and threatened with the F16 fighters based in Akrotiri and a regiment of Ghurka soldiers , based at that time in Cyprus.. Clearly this would have been after the overthrow of Makarios on 15th July 1974. The rest, as you know, is history.

All governmentys manipulate their mass media to stay in power. All have hidden agendas. The Americans at this time were even worse than they are today in interfering in world politics.

But do not forget the Russians and their involvement, pro Greek Cyprus.

PS Turkey did not Illegally invade Cyprus, but had the right as a Guarantor Nation to intervene to ensure that the 1960 Constitution was kept intact.

They ABUSED THIS RIGHT! You know fair well! The INVASION BECAME ILLEGAL DUE TO ITS PLAN / NATURE/ OBJECTIVES! I mean look at the bloodbath/evictions/killings/rapings/thieving/looting/destruction/illegaly occupation/illegal colonisation ETC ETC ETC ETC . .

They are still illegally occupying 32 years later . . YOUR STATEMENT HAS NO SUBSTANCE . .

Your other info was good . .confirmed alot of what i have heard

My stuff is very good because I do the research.

I also try and keep emotion OUT of my posts because it intereferes with the facts.

Again let me reiterate Both sides suffered barbaric losses, rapes, property losses etc etc etc .

Greek Cypriots DO NOT have a monopoly on pain in the Cyprob.
