Post Melbourne, Victoria
Melbourne is home of many Cypriot and many Greek people

We would love to hear about Cypriots and Greeks from Melbourne.

Melbourne is a very cultural and lovely city

1/4 of the 4,000,000 population is Greek! Represent!

Actually the census of 2001 showed that only 161,000 Greeks live in Melbourne. This figure is about 800,000 less than what you actually claim.

Actually Tom... the 160,000 you refer to is actually 161,530 GREEK-BORN living in Australia. However, in total there are over 600,000 Greeks and Cypriots combined.

There would have been at least 60,000 fans at the Greece-Australia match...All I know is that Melbourne is the third largest city with Greeks in the world...

Athens, Thesaloniki and Melbourne...

I have just returned from Melbourne. I was there for a few days and have been several times now. . .You can really feel the hellenism there! I heard about the Greece/Australia game and there was alot of hype around the place and poarticularly in Lonsdale St! Unfortunately I wasnt there for the game and its a shame the Greece lost

I think Australia is a much better team than Greece at the moment.

I don't know about this Tom...One thing is for sure, the Greeks were brought out here to loose...I said it before the game and I betted on it...

It makes no sence to sent your team to play another team and risk injury to your players so close to the play offs...Also can you imagine the psychological effect it would have had on your players, if you lost?

It also gave soccer a boost in australia...2:00AM the whole family watched the game...We are takinga family that follows Ausie rules, and never watch soccer...It boosted the sport's profile...

All this by winning...If you watched the game it should have been 6 to 0 Australia's way...

Not taking any shine against the socceroos, even though we lost, we played petty good...We will steam roll Croatia next Friday, thats for sure Laughing

Tom and Michael . .

Yes I think that Greece has slipped a bit in their quality of play since they won the Euro Champs last year.

Australia, although very rough players, are looking very strong . .

They played very well against the mighty Brazil yesterday but unfortunately lost the game 2 - 0. They did however have some good chances at goal!

I agree with Michael very strongly, Australians are suddenly very passionate about soccer . . And yes it is taking dominance over ozie rulez and rugby at the momment - - who would have thought?

I think that the socceroos have done very well for the profile of Soccer in Australia

There is alot of hype in Austalia right now for the Soccceroos in the World Cup . .I saw this first hand in Melbourne
