What do Cypriots Want? The dividing line removed?
Dear Members
What do Greek and Turkish Cypriots realistically want?
Greek and Turkish Cypriots are crossing the border everyday. It is becoming a part of life for many people.
Is this the ideal situation for the Cyprus Problem? Will the green line ever be able to be removed?
Can we continue to live togethor with the current situation?
Are Cypriots happy or unhappy with the current situation? Why? or Why not?

I think most TC's and GC's are happy with the current situation. I would imagine the new generations in both parts of the island have grown up to know only one side of Cyprus.

in terms of the Green line...the current situation doesnt do much for anyone. i believe there are still risks with the borders being opened. trusting one another is complicated and difficult for a lot of Cypriots.

Get rid of the green line, it's very existance only reminds and reinforces that we are seperated and hence keeps the walls in our minds up and living, we need to start bringing these walls down bit by bit wether they are physical or mental.
The green line is bad and should not be allowed to continue even one more day, and while we are at it lets get rid of all Greek and Turkish flags too as they are another form of symbol that represents our division.

as much as i agree with what you are saying... i believe the Cyprus flag does not represent any division. The flag was conceived before the invasion. I think the symbol of division is epitomised by the Northen Cyprus flag.

When i said Greek flags i meant exactly that and not the ROC flag as such, go to Larnaka for example on Mckenzie beach every 50 meters there is a Greek flag and to me as most others looks more like a Greek island should rather than a cypriot island, that said the amount of Greek and Turkish flags in the North and South in the squares, official buildings, sporting venues, the beach etc. almost makes it look like Cyprus is a Turkish and Greek island AKA "mini me" of the mainlands.
While we are all free to love, respect, loath or hate the mainlands, Cyprus is a cypriot island and these two countries imo contribute to the division in our minds through their symbols like their flags, as Greece and Turkey whom have been traditional enemies for centuries and this is reflected through this, we should remove all mainland Greek and Turkish symbols and replace them with cypriot ones, we have a large and long enough history for us all to be proud of and have no need or requirement for the mainlands ones at all.
Hope that clears it up.

its funny how you make reference to a 'mainland' In my mind the mainland is CYPRUS.
Tell me brother, how the current flag of the Republic of Cyprus symbolises your so-called mainlands (Greece and Turkey)? I dont see any Red, blue or white in our flag.
